A recent video I looked at, entitled “What’s a video worth?” highlighted some amazing figures around the world of video and confirmed why businesses need to jump aboard this video bandwagon. Here are just some of the amazing stats from this video:

  • After 72 hours of viewing, the average human being can retain 10% of text, 65% of images and 95% of video
  • More than 4 billion videos are watched every day, that’s 3 billion hours of video
  • 68% of viewers share video links
  • 500 tweets every minute contain video links
  • Having a video on the landing page of your website makes it 53% more likely to appear on the 1st page of a Google search
  • Average website visit duration:
    • Text and image website – 43 seconds
    • Website with video – 5 mins 50 secs
  • Customers who watch videos of products or services – 85% more likely to make a purchase

Videos have both audio and visual elements: that’s why they are so engaging for the viewer. So how can you use video to promote both your business and customer engagement?  Some typical uses are as follows:

  • Product demos
  • Testimonials Personal introduction (differentiate yourself from your competitors)
  • Tell your brand story
  • Simplify concepts
  • Screencasts: explaining a process, how to use/install a piece of software.

Look at how Sugru (www.sugru.com) uses video to explain what their product is all about. Check out how Josh Hochschuler from www.talentigelato.com/ uses video to explain how their ice cream is made and what makes it so delicious. In general, people prefer to watch a video than read text. Can you really just rely on text to get across your passion for something, to explain the reasons why someone should buy from you and not someone else etc. Good luck with your video endeavors.
